Do The Right Thing Winner
From the Ft. Myers Police Department: Thank you for nominating Desiree Thompson (´08 graduate)for the Fort Myers Police Department’s “Do The Right Thing” program. You sent in the nomination at the end of last school year but we feel that she deserves to be awarded. I’m happy to let you know that she will be recognized in our monthly ceremony, and we hope you can join us!The Do The Right Thing ceremony is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Thursday, October 16 at City Hall (2200 Second Street) in Fort Myers. (Nominated by Mrs. Mitchell) Desiree Thompson was nominated for the Do the Right Thing Awarded last spring as a result of a series of acts of unselfishness she showed towards a fellow classmate. She had gone out of her way to befriend a young lady who had a difficult time making friends and who even she had some struggles with earlier in the year. She taught her how to do some girly type things like straighten her hair and apply makeup, also invited her over to her house. It seemed like a small thing at the time but it made a huge difference in the young lady´s life.

Mr. Ryba takes on a new job at FMCS!
Mr. John Ryba, who has served this past year as our 5/6 grade history teacher, has offered his services to our school in the area of public relations. As a part-time public relations director, he will be working hard with the media and area businesses trying to get the name "Fort Myers Christian School" out into the community. We pray that the exposure will increase enrollment and make people aware of what God is doing through our students and teachers at FMCS as we approach our 30th year! Mr. Ryba and his wife, Peggy, also comprise the "Ryba Team" with Prudential Florida WCI Realty (www.therybateam.com). You can contact Mr. Ryba at 939-4642 and JRyba@fmcs-fl.org . In case of hurricanes...
1.Pray for protection, families, our community, and for the storm to decrease in power and move away!
2.FMCS may not follow the plan of Lee County regarding opening or closing. Lee County has to consider the effect of many schools FMCS just deals with one campus.
3.Check our website: www.fmcs-fl.com (Depending on electricity)
4.Call the school - we will try to have the answering machine set or have someone here to answer questions. (Depending on electricity and phone lines being up and running)
5. BEST WAY: Check WAY-FM, NBC-2, ABC-7 and WINK. These are the stations that we have contacted.
6.Regarding make-up days: we need to wait until this hurricane season is over to make a determination. This will be taken to our School Board for discussion. Try to hold-off on your plans - thanks for your patience.

Both teachers were very surprised!!!
The Golden Halo Awards will be held on October 13th and they will be picked up by limo for the event to be held at the Three Oaks Banquet Hall. Please call Ticket information, contact the Christian Chamber at 481.1411.

Mrs. Stewart is Honored!
Fort Myers Christian School and First Assembly Ministries would like to congratulate first grade teacher, Mrs. Myra Stewart. The Florida League of Christian Schools Chapter of the Association of Christian Teachers and Schools (ACTS) has selected her to be included in the 2005-2006 School Year edition of Who´s Who Among Assemblies of God Educators, an annual award recognizing Pentecostal educators who have dedicated themselves to teaching God´s children. One private Christian school teacher and one public school teacher is selected annually for this exclusive award from each state chapter of ACTS. This annual award was based upon demonstrated classroom excellence and because you have demonstrated exemplary Christian character.
Mrs. Stewart is one of only two teachers remaining from the inaugural teaching staff when Fort Myers Christian School opened in 1979. She started in daycare, then served by teaching students with learning disabilities (1983-1993), taught first grade from 1980-1983 and 1993 to the present. One of her student’s parent’s stated that she “is a phenomenal teacher…she provides her student with creative classroom learning experiences…she is a wonderful example to the children and radiates the great love God has for each child.” Mrs. Stewart’s first grade classes have been actively working on community projects with the Salvation Army. She has also been very involved with the First Assembly choir, ensemble, driving the bus for youth functions, and helping her husband’s barbeque catering service at church and community events.
The church and school are very thankful for her vision, leadership, example, and dedication to Christian education and serving her community.
