Two Golden Halo Finalists at FMCS
Two Fort Myers Christian School teachers received a big surprise last Thursday morning! Fox news (Fox 4) and the Christian Chamber of Southwest Florida visited the school for a special reason. Last year was the first year for the Golden Halo Awards - an award created for private school teachers (over 60 schools) in the Lee, Collier and Charlotte County area since Christian school teachers are not considered for the Golden Apple Teacher Award.
Fort Myers Christian School is proud to announce that they are the only school with two finalists in the top ten for the Golden Halo Award (over 100 application were judged): Mrs. Jennifer Crouch (7/8 language and bible, nominated by Miss Emily Hardy) and Mrs. Lee Mitchell (7/8 history and bible, nominated by Miss Rachelle Radford and Miss Jessica Mabrey)!!!! Both teachers were very surprised!!!
The Golden Halo Awards will be held on October 13th and they will be picked up by limo for the event to be held at the Three Oaks Banquet Hall. Please call Ticket information, contact the Christian Chamber at 481.1411.

Mrs. Stewart is Honored!
Fort Myers Christian School and First Assembly Ministries would like to congratulate first grade teacher, Mrs. Myra Stewart. The Florida League of Christian Schools Chapter of the Association of Christian Teachers and Schools (ACTS) has selected her to be included in the 2005-2006 School Year edition of Who´s Who Among Assemblies of God Educators, an annual award recognizing Pentecostal educators who have dedicated themselves to teaching God´s children. One private Christian school teacher and one public school teacher is selected annually for this exclusive award from each state chapter of ACTS. This annual award was based upon demonstrated classroom excellence and because you have demonstrated exemplary Christian character.
Mrs. Stewart is one of only two teachers remaining from the inaugural teaching staff when Fort Myers Christian School opened in 1979. She started in daycare, then served by teaching students with learning disabilities (1983-1993), taught first grade from 1980-1983 and 1993 to the present. One of her student’s parent’s stated that she “is a phenomenal teacher…she provides her student with creative classroom learning experiences…she is a wonderful example to the children and radiates the great love God has for each child.” Mrs. Stewart’s first grade classes have been actively working on community projects with the Salvation Army. She has also been very involved with the First Assembly choir, ensemble, driving the bus for youth functions, and helping her husband’s barbeque catering service at church and community events.
The church and school are very thankful for her vision, leadership, example, and dedication to Christian education and serving her community.
