Dr. Charles
Kendrick became our second principal in the fall of
1988. Dr. Kendrick had served as a Superintendent of
School in Missouri prior to accepting the position of
principal at our school. Dr. Kendrick was the
principal for only one year. His assistant principals
were Mr. Cary VanKampen over the elementary school,
and Mr. Dale Moncrief over the junior and senior high
schools. The following year Mr. Moncrief was appointed
as the principal.

Coach Mel Mitchell was really satisfied when the
1988-89 varsity Lady Eagles Basketball team had a
winning season (24-4), so the goal was
winning the District Championship - everything
else was to be "icing on the cake."
The Lady Eagles went
out to win the Sectional Final, then the Regional
final and found themselves in the "Final
Four" in Lakeland for Class1-A!
The Girls defeated Cedar Key in
the semi-finals and moved on to the State
Championship. In the final game, the Lady Eagles fell
to the Ponce deLeon Pirates, the number one ranked
team with a 31-0 record, which gave the Lady Eagles
the position of Class 1-A Second Place in the state of
Florida.
"Second place is fine with
me." Sophomore Kelley Lowrey said, "Going to
state was the experience of a lifetime."
"We got out there and did our
best. That's all we could do. Since we weren't ranked
all year, second place is an honor. I'm proud of the
girls," said Coach Mel Mitchell. |

Seniors enjoy themselves in what
turned out to be the final senior trip to Cedarkirk.
Going on a senior trip to Cedarkirk had been an annual
tradition for every senior class, but as the door
closed on our high school, so did the annual trip to
Cedarkirk.
